As a potter, I am drawn to simplicity of form. I love the synergy between exposed clay bodies and elegant, uncomplicated glazes. The use of geometrics in design and decoration also inspires me. Techniques and styles such as salt-firing, raku, handbuilding and dry glazes all fascinate me. Using these to help create something from nothing gives me great satisfaction; that such explorations do sometimes produce pleasing results, gives me pause for wonder. I am inspired by the daily things that surround us, and also by those moments of rare beauty that we only occasionally glimpse. My Fossil Pots reflect the patterns of the landscape around us; the rivers, hills and wandering pathways that we follow as we meander through life. Raku is one of my passions. Exploring and developing my knowledge of raku is my current raison d'être. |
